Englewood author to publish e-book

By STEVEN J. SMITH STAFF WRITER

ENGLEWOOD — When Lesli Richardson’s new novel “Love & Brimstone” debuts, you won’t find it at your local bookstore.

The novel will take the form of an “ebook,” available for purchase — and reading — over the Internet. According to Richardson, 37, of Rotonda West, cyberspace is a great platform for new authors to get their works out to the public.

“Once the book is released, people can go to a Web site, purchase it, download it and then read it on their computer,” Richardson said. “Once it sells 250 copies, the publisher will put it in the queue for trade paperback distribution.”

Amira Press is the name of the epublisher, Richardson said, whose Web site is www.amirapress.com. E-books at the site range in price from about $2.50 to $12.99. Richardson’s will be in the $5-$7 range, she said.

The process is environmentally friendly, she added, because “you’re not killing a zillion trees to publish something.”

Richardson referred to her novel as a “paranormal romance.”

“It’s Buffy the vampire slayer meets Boston Legal,” she said. “I twisted the vampire myth. I approached it from the angle of, what if (vampirism) is a genetic condition?”

“Love & Brimstone” takes place in
Florida and Yellowstone National Park and is the first of a series. The main character, Anastazia Proctor, is a highly successful lawyer who does not realize she is a vampire. Her whole world is turned upside down when the truth is revealed to her.

“Once the myth of what she thought was her life is ripped out from under her, she struggles to regain control, which of course is a total absurdity,” Richardson said. “Because we have no control over our lives, basically. And she finds that out with tragic consequences.”

Richardson has seven books planned for the series at present, “but there is always room for more,” she said. “Depending on reader response.”

More information and a teaser of the story can be found at Richardson’s Web site, brimstoneseries.blogspot.com.

The actual release date has not been set, but Richardson maintained it will happen soon.

“Probably within the next month or so,” she said.
